Hello my tulips!🌷

Today I wanted to talk about something that has become a major beauty trend…facial massages! Especially through multiple social media platforms, new techniques and tools appear as each share tips on different ways to massage the face from ice baths and ice rollers to lifting bands, gua sha tools, octopus rollers, and you name it! Even by just using your hands with moisturizer of your choice you can see great effects. This has changed facial massages into becoming a new ritual.

Sometimes we just need to give ourselves some “me time” and facial massages can become a really nice act of self-care to release tension, improve circulation, and relax any stressors we may have. These small, intentional “me time” can both change our appearance, but also how we feel about ourselves. This simple ritual of doing facial massages reminds us to slow down, breathe, and take care of ourselves and in this case both our skin and our self-esteem ❤️.

And I know you may be wondering how may this truly help us? Well…thanks to my cousin, who is currently about to graduate from cosmetology school, I’ve learned a few helpful tips and tricks about caring for ourselves and how even the smallest rituals can bring many benefits that I will love to share with you all.

Let’s begin with why facial massages are beneficial to the muscles & skin.

As you can see in the graphic, the green hearts are the areas that each have a specific benefit when massaging.

  1. Forehead, Cheekbones, and Jaw: helps relieve tension, define and soften the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines caused from everyday facial movements.
  2. Cheeks: increases circulation to increase blood flow bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the skin for a healthier glow.
  3. Under-eye Area: reduces dark circles and puffiness improving texture and skin tonality.
  4. Chin/Under the Chin & Neck: imitates a lymphatic drainage helping the body release toxins and reduce the look of loose skin.

If you follow theses target areas for massaging, it may better overall skin health. Especially, as you spread your products into the skin as it further improves absorption for serums and moisturizers.

Now lets dig deep into these different tools that have helped us our own spa at home and their benefits…

Ice Baths/Ice Rollers: constricts blood vessels, which decreases swelling and inflammation that helps the skin appear more lifted.

Just be careful about keeping it on for an extended period of time on your skin as it can damage the skin if you keep it in one specific area. You want to be constantly moving the ice roller. (p.s. you can even infuse the water with cucumbers/mint, chamomile if you want to further help inflammation and refresh the face).

Gua Sha: helps with puffiness, drainage of lymphatic fluids, and increase blood circulation for a healthy glow and helps lifts the skin.

When using it please make sure your skin is prepped on a clean, moisturized face and then apply a serum or face oil to prevent any harsh movement and tugging on your skin.

Face Sculptors: Similar to gua sha, helps reduce puffiness, brighten the skin, reliefs tightness, and increases blood circulation.

You also want to make sure your skin is prepped and use the tool gently making sure to apply a serum, face oil, or moisturizer when massaging.

Think of all these tools and facial massage benefits as a total reset for your body and mind. At the end of the day, it’s about so much more than just skincare, it’s about how the process makes you feel. When you take that time for yourself, you don’t just look healthier; you feel alive, energized, and ready to go!

It’s a win-win for both your skin as it becomes more smooth and vibrant, and for you as it gives you that instant confidence boost we all sometimes need due to feeling tired, having a rough day or maybe we weren’t feeling well. No matter the cause we all deserve to feel beautiful and know that we are. Plus, those soothing, calming motions tell your brain to ‘calm down’, it triggers your body to rest mode taking away stress and anxiety. To me, it’s one of the best ways to remind yourself that taking care of you isn’t a luxury, but it’s a priority and you don’t need to go to a spa, you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

Well that is all my tulips! I hope you learned a new couple of tricks and tools for facial massages to help you when having your own spa day at home. Whether its alone or during “girls night” you shall all feel loved and taken care of 💗.

xoxo, Mari
