Hihi my tulips!🌷
Sometimes, I’m not gonna lie—it can feel exhausting to do my makeup. I also don’t tend to use a lot of products to begin with, which is why I really love “no-makeup” makeup days. Over time, I’ve been exposed to different makeup products and have now created a simple routine that still works wonders! It helps me look awake, feel fresh, and never weighed down. So for those days when you don’t feel like putting in too much effort, here’s a “no-makeup” makeup routine based on what I use and beauty favorites.
Let’s Begin!
Step 1: SPF
Before I even think about applying makeup, I make sure my skin is well hydrated. It is very important in any skincare routine and before make-up routine. I use a lightweight, B5 and rice seed water–infused SPF 50 from Beauty of Joseon called Relief Sun Aqua Fresh.
It’s mainly designed for oily and combination skin, though the brand says it’s suitable for all skin types. As someone with normal skin, it works really well for me, leaving my skin feeling smooth, and I’ve never experienced any irritation. Also, the rice seed water is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help restore the skin’s natural glow.
Step 2: Tinted Sunscreen
To add an extra layer of hydration and protection, and instead of using foundation, I use a tinted sunscreen as my base. It creates a smooth, even layer without that “cakey” feeling. This gives you a lightweight yet effective base to build on. The one I use is from Isdin, Fotoprotector Fusion Water MAGIC Medium SPF 50.
Personally, after trying it for the first time, I completely stopped using foundation and now rely on tinted SPF for both my everyday routine and my “no makeup” makeup days. This tinted sunscreen provides a natural coverage and balances the skin tone.
Step 3: Concealer
I tend to get dark under-eyes sometimes, and on those tired days, I know we don’t want them to stand out. Apply just enough product to brighten the area and look more lifted and awake. I like to gently blend it in with my fingers or a mini beauty blender for a soft, natural finish.
My must-have concealer is from Haus Labs, the Triclone™ Skin Tech Concealer, in the shade 20 Medium Light Peach. The reason why I love this concealer is because it feels lightweight and has a clean formula, made with over 20 skincare ingredients. I have been using it since it launched in September 2023.
Step 4: Blush
For a bit of warmth to the look, apply blush! I like using cream-based blushes. With my finger, I gently pat it in to my cheeks and a touch on the nose so the overall look feels more natural.
I actually have two cream blushes I love to switch between, depending on whether I’m in the mood for a more mauve or berry tone. The first one is from Tower 28, their BeachPlease Cream Blush in the shade “office hours”, which leans toward a sun-kissed mauve tone. The second one is from Merit, their Flush Balm in the shade “Après” offering a classic pink with a soft berry undertone. Both have natural finishes that melts into the skin.
Step 5: Mascara
To fully have that refreshed and awake look, mascara is a must as it helps the eyes appear larger and more defined. So, instead of using a heavy pigmented mascara, I prefer using a clear formula. It still gives the effect of fuller, longer lashes, but with a softer, more natural finish.
Similar to how I switched to tinted SPF for my base, I also replaced traditional mascara with clear. I found it made my lashes look healthier and helped reduce fallout, which I was experiencing quite often with regular mascara. My go to has always been from COSNORI, Long Active Eyelash Serum.
Step 6: Lip Gloss, Balm, or Tint
The finishing touch…lips! They’re essential for adding a hint of color alongside the blush, as it refreshes the entire look while also hydrating the lips with nourishing ingredients and oils.
I’m a total lip girly! I collect all kinds of lip products, from lipsticks and glosses to balms and tints, you name it. I love how they instantly complete a look. My top 3 that I interchange during my “no make up” make up days are…
- Refy, Lip Gloss
- Shades: Fawn and Plum
- Tone: Medium, Mauve Brown (Fawn) and Neutral (Plum)
- Laneige, JuicePop Box Lip Tint
- Shades: DJ Plum and Mocha Remix
- Tone: Both are Mauve
- OleHenriksen, Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment
- Shade: Strawberry Sorbet
- Tone: Mauve Pink Tint
Woohoo! you’ve made it to the end of the routine. In just six simple steps, you can still feel confident with a soft “no-makeup” makeup look. This is about self-care and making time for yourself.
To me, beauty is a form of support. A intentional way of showing up for yourself, even on the low-energy days. These small moments; applying SPF, tapping on blush, adding a hint of gloss, they all become less of a routine and more of ritual. And remember, this is all not to impress anyone, but to reconnect with yourself.
You got this! Maybe this can be your soft reset too 🫂
xoxo, Mari
